‘Action’ - Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of our communities and without them we would incur massive extra costs per annum.

In order to continue this crucial service, we have to ensure a regular supply of high quality, committed individuals who can provide young people across the county; ‘somewhere to go’, ‘something to do’ and ‘someone to talk to’.

We are committed to finding suitable activities for young people to become involved in. One scheme is the vinvolved programme, which is an opportunity to gain recognition for the voluntary commitment young people make to their local causes.

We have a team of youth volunteer advisors and youth volunteer development managers dedicated to the delivery of quality volunteering opportunities, which are safe and offer a valuable experience to the young people who will become tomorrow’s leaders.

We have established systems to accredit and reward both adult and young people for their volunteering. These encourage continued participation and an allegiance to their community programme.

BACYP’s action team regularly represent volunteers at national and local events, keeping the profile of volunteering to the forefront of the national agenda.

Through positive youth action we can encourage the development of enterprising behaviour.

AIK SAATH WINS THE NATIONAL ‘V INSPIRED UNITE AWARD!’’

On November 26th/2009, the first ever Vinspired national awards took place at the indigO2, London.

Aik Saath was up against two other organizations and came out the winner for this nationally recognized award, with the dedication and teamwork of specifically seven volunteers.

Mujtaba Ali, Wiqas Baig, Vik Bhachu, Priya Bilkhu, Ashley Gabbi, Asim Khan and Shahavez Kiani have worked together and supported each other, using a range of different skills and abilities to create positive change in their community, and the fruits of their labor have been recognized.

‘It feels good to be recognized for our work, but we do what we do not to be recognized but to make a contribution to our community,’ says volunteer and winner Vik Bhachu.

The Vinspired national awards are the culmination of over 700 nominations, across 10 categories, from every region in England with assessment panels taking place at both regional and national levels.

The national event recognized the incredible contributions young people aged 16-25 have made to their communities through all forms of volunteering.  The evening was hosted by actor James Redmond and T4 presenter Jameela Jamil.  Also, at the awards were Dragon’s Den entrepreneur James Caan and Rapper/Musician Tinchy Stryder.

Aik Saath means ‘Together as One’ (In Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu) and is dedicated to the promotion of peace and racial harmony through the teaching of conflict resolution and anti-racism skills in the local community of Slough and its surrounding areas. The project is a peer-led scheme, so young people train other young people in these skills.

BACYP Youth Action would like to congratulate Aik Saath, one of our exciting volunteering opportunities on winning this prestigous National vAward.
