Activities Programme SPLAT Gifted Prolific Speak Out
The BACYP activities programme has been developed to encourage young people in Berkshire to become active citizens and get involved in events and activities offering life long opportunities. Activities give young people the chance to improve their health, become active and make a positive contribution through leadership in their community.
Working with over 140 youth groups throughout the year, this programme is accessible directly through community events for young people and also in partnership with local youth clubs and projects. We offer all our leaders the opportunity to train and qualify for community leadership with National Governing Bodies (NGB)
The events and activities are all about having a go. Young people are encouraged to compete locally in anything from boxing to ten pin bowling and, if talent emerges, we can then provide a pathway into regional and national competitions. Our current activities programme can be found here
SPLAT, the Sport, Leisure and Activities Team, is BACYP’s mobile team operating across Berkshire, supporting youth leaders to run activities from football to cricket and circus skills to curling. It delivers a range of arts and craft activities which can be booked as a one off or in eight week programmes. As well as traditional sporting options, creative activities such as Glee style show choirs, street dance, cheerleading and creative arts such as glass painting, puppet making and cartoon art are on offer. Gifted Prolific
Gifted Prolific is BACYP’s innovative music project delivering an intensive music training programme that offers a wide range of young people the chance to gain accreditations in music production. We specialise in working with challenging and hard to reach young people, including those with a history of offending behaviour or substance abuse, as well as those with additional support needs. Our training programmes act as a gateway into further education and a high percentage of our young people have gone on to study music full time at Reading College.
Gifted Prolific works in partnership with Reading Borough Council. We operate a cutting edge studio and Apple Mac computer music suite at South Reading Youth and Community Centre. This is an incredible resource for the young people of Reading and something that they can access free of charge.
Speak out
The Speak Out project works closely with the development of local community and parish plans to help young people have a voice in their community. The key to the success of these activities is in meeting with as many young people as possible, hearing about their priorities for the local area and then working with them to make their ideas happen. Young people are empowered by being proactive within their community and working with other young people, services and parish councils to achieve success.
