BACYP Youth Action
What is Youth Action?
Youth Action is a successful approach to encouraging young people to engage with communities, enabling them to become active in their own time, meet other young people, gain skills, have fun and develop solutions to community needs.
At the heart of youth action is giving young people real opportunities to play a key role in the design, delivery and evaluation of projects.
Principles
Central to the youth action approach are a set of nine guiding principles:
- Youth Participation
Enabling young people to identify, plan, carry through and reflect on their action - Benefiting Others
Encouraging young people to bring about positive change for themselves and communities - Fun & Rewarding
Ensuring young people enjoy themselves and gain a sense of achievement - Flexibility
Meeting young people’s differing skills, levels of confidence, commitment and interests - Support
Ensuring that young people are properly protected and get the most from the experience - Recognition
Young people are offered the opportunity to have their action recognised or accredited by others - either formally or informally - Progression & Leadership
Supporting volunteers to take on increasingly challenging activities or levels of responsibility if desired and/or appropriate - Diverse & Inclusive
Offering non stereotyped activities and supporting all young volunteers in exploring and challenging prejudice and discrimination - Developmental & Educative
Supporting young people to take on increasingly challenging activities or levels of responsibility if desired and/or appropriate. Young people are encouraged to reflect on and learn from their experiences
BACYP fully support these nine principals and look at creating exciting and challenging opportunities.
Here are just few examples of how BACYP has embraced these principals:
